This wealthy port metropolis, whose population has doubled in the past century is an important merchant city on the Sword Coast. Its strong watch and the presence of the powerful Flaming Fists mercenary company have long kept the city generally peaceful and safe.

Recent days have seen great upheaval in Baldur’s Gate. After the murder of Abdel Adrian, one of the city’s four dukes, the city was engulfed in a power struggle that left thousands dead. The Flaming Fist has suffered heavy losses and scandal. Much of the city was destroyed by fires, riots, and explosions. Rumor has it a cult dedicated to the newly resurrected god of murder, Bhaal.

The fate of the city is uncertain. People have left in droves, bound for Waterdeep, Amn, and other nearby regions.
